Lushangfen Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Xie Jiarong erected the Lushangfen Shale and Sandstone in 1933. The reference section 1 is in Nanshan of Tudong of the Fangshan District, Beijing (member 1 of the lower Lushangfen Formation). The reference section 2 is from Nanshan of Xiaoyuan -Chongqing reservoir of the Fangshan District, Beijing (the lower part of the member 2 of the Lushangfen Formation). The reference section 3 is in Chonggezhuang-Qinglongtou of the Fangshan District of Beijing (the upper part of the member 2 and the lower parts of the member 3 and 4 of the Lushangfen Formation). The reference section 4 is to the north of the Chongqing reservoir (the upper part of the member 4 of the Lushangfen Formation).
Lithology and Thickness
The Lushangfen Formation is divided into four members. The First and Third members are mainly represented by purple red sandy conglomerate. While the Second and Fourth members are yellow, gray and brownish white sandy conglomerate with clayey shale. The formation is in conformable contact with both the overlying and underlying strata. It is 1082 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by dark purple and yellow, gray and brown white conglomerate is distinguished from the underlying Tuoli Fm marked by yellow sandstone and conglomerate.
Upper contact
Its top is bounded by the appearance of yellow brown gravel-bearing grit at the base of the Xiazhuang Fm.
Regional extent
The present formation is extensively distributed in the hilly areas northeast of Tuoli-Gangshang and southwest of Chaoyangshan-Guaicun- Yinshuijing.

Fossils
The formation yields floras Acanthopteris gothani, A. onychioides, Conipteris conciuna; insects Coptoclava sp., Xishanocarabus cf. parvus, Mesoblattina sp.
Age
Depositional setting
It is of fluvial facies.
